Gate and path

Gate and path

Contest organized by the City Council of Santa Coloma de Gramanet, Barcelona, España, to build a permanent piece of art to commemorate the 100th. anniversary of the discovery of the Puig Castellar Iberian village.

The space in which we will work is a hill. The main objective is to construct by adapting ourselves to the topographic conditions of the location, just as the Iberians adapted themselves to build their homes. The project idea is both the gate and the driveway into an old house that was inhabited before, which is old and still has history. A door is attached to the path to release from the land those objects that allow us to discover the identity of its its owners. Such an experience is conveyed with emotion to those of us who are still living on those materials which permit the reconstruction of History.

I suggest the implementation of a road below the sculpture, the door. This path, located in a non busy roundabout, proposes the transition from one side to another and approaches the sculpture to its public, making it more understandable by the quality of presence and proximity.
